Hi, there. i'm mike lavalley
the registered architect, career strategist, and blogging entrepreneur behind evolving architect.
i help creative professionals evolve their passion for architecture and design into successful, epic careers.
When I was a young child, I was that kid you may have known on your block that played with Transformers, enjoyed Chess, and couldn't get enough of Legos.
So, obviously I became an Architect. I mean, why not? Right? (Although I almost made a lucrative career as a Mad Scientist if you can believe that... MUAHAHAHA! Ahem.)
Let's face it. Some of us are just hopeless romantics when it comes to the mistress that is Architecture. We torture ourselves with late nights, little to no sleep, and one of the lowest grades of pay for a profession - all to create buildings.
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't have it any other way.
I'm an Architect through and through.
I have the itch - the need to better the world around me through the built environment. I've had this feeling since High School and haven't been able to shake it. If anything, it's only gotten stronger and more pronounced with time.
I was trained as an Architect and graduated in 2008 from Syracuse University with a Bachelors or Architecture. After college, I moved back to my hometown of Buffalo, NY.
It was this decision that set me on the path to the success I've found in my career so far. I began to build a name for myself slowly and over time. I worked at a local firm, pursued several design competitions on my own, served our community through Habitat for Humanity, and ultimately found my way to the door of the American Institute of Architects.
AIA Buffalo/WNY is where I found my calling to help others in their own careers as I had been guided on mine before.
Since then, I've helped professionals throughout my hometown of Buffalo, NY, across New York State, evolve their careers in the field of architecture.
In October 2015, I decided that I had to compile all of the knowledge I had gained into a single outlet that could help more than just those within the humble boundaries of my own Buffalo.
On October 13th, 2015, Evolving Architect was launched and I have made it my mission to help others seeking to better themselves professionally.
This journey has been long and arduous. Being an Architect is not for the faint of heart. A career in the profession of Architecture is one that evolves over time.
