Now, I know what you're thinking. 'Why would an Architect be fighting to the death with a glass of water?' And while I can't say for sure, it is a perfectly logical question given what's been presented to you.

As Architects, we've always been at war with water. There's either too much of it, or these days, there's not enough to go around. We design our buildings to keep it out, reuse it, and preserve it for future generations.

But alas, that is for another discussion at another time.


My fight with water today is because I'm just not getting enough of it. I try. I really do. But every time I think I've succeeded, I realize my body needs even more.

Because we're all human, we function the best as Architects when our bodies are treated well. That means that water can no longer be our enemy.

Let's face it. The architecture you create is more likely to be successful if you're allowing your mind and body to work in sync rather than against one other.


"So, what? All I need is caffeine!"

I've been there. That's a dark path to go down. A jittery, unrelenting path into more and more coffee. Don't get me wrong. Coffee can be good some of the time, but WATER WILL BE GREAT ALL OF THE TIME.

How can we best get the water we need? Yeah, so just drink some, or well, a lot. How much? Many say that you need to drink at least half of your body weight in ounces of water every, single day. Yikes! That's a lot of water!

You'll want some weapons for your quest to hydrate. Here are four epic hydration weapons to get you the H2O you need to succeed!

  1. Simple Glass
    This classic has been a staple of the kitchen for decades. Simple to use and easy to clean. You can't go wrong with this beauty.

  2. Insulated Mug
    All the rage in the office and multifunctional! This wonder will help you keep that morning coffee hot and that afternoon water cool.

  3. Water Bottle
    Whether you're at your desk or hitting the gym, the water bottle can go anywhere you do. Since the sizes and styles vary as much as your taste, why not take a chance on this fantastic device?

  4. Super Mug
    This is the King of all water-containing glory. At 64oz, you'll only need to fill up this bad boy once. It's also quite the fashion statement and can be used as an actual weapon if you're about to get... (Wait for it...) mugged!


Now, this is all in good fun, but I really hope you'll consider adding a bit more water to your daily routine. It will help you think clearer and generate more consistent benefits for both your mind and body.

Go out in the world and consider how water can help you become a better Architect.


Take a chance with water. Something I've started doing regularly is drinking at least 16oz of water as soon as I open my eyes every morning. Keep a bottle of water next to your bed and make sure it's easily accessible. Rather than checking that first email, take a sip of that fantastic, refreshing water. Your body has been basically fasting since you went to bed and it will thank you for the consideration you've given it.
